Importance of colpocytology in adolescence

Abstract

Abstract:
The topic of adolescence is present in all debates in contemporary life, since more than one billion people in the world are between the ages of 10 and 19. Prevention of diseases that will compromise the quality and even the life expectancy of these future adults is necessary, especially sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), through cytopathology screening programs as soon as the adolescent begins her sexual life. A cytopathology study carried out on adolescent offenders, serving socio-educational measures of internment in a school in the city of Rio de Janeiro, between 2004 and 2005, presented results that clearly demonstrate the prevalence of STDs and cervical lesions in this population, pointing out the incidence of these pathologies in the young representation of our society and the need for screening and prevention of these diseases early.
