Abstract:
The promotion of healthy eating has become the target of several campaigns for the prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The younger population has shown increasing rates of obesity worldwide and in Brazil. Among the proposals to encourage healthy eating, the consumption of fruits and vegetables stands out. The increase in the consumption of these foods can be reflected in the reduction of morbidity and mortality due to NCDs and obesity worldwide. Brazil does not have current data on the food consumption of adolescents, but several local studies point to the low consumption of fruits and vegetables as a central issue for changes aimed at healthy eating. It is in this context that the present study is inserted. Through a literature review, the consumption profile of fruits and vegetables among Brazilian adolescents was verified, also highlighting their advantages.
