Quality Assurance (QA) programs are fundamental components of diagnostic imaging services, ensuring that imaging procedures consistently produce high-quality diagnostic images while minimizing patient risks. Advances in digital radiography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, and nuclear medicine have significantly improved diagnostic capabilities; however, these technologies require comprehensive QA systems to maintain performance, ensure patient safety, and optimize clinical outcomes. This review examines the principles of QA in diagnostic imaging departments, discusses internationally recognized standards, evaluates the impact of QA programs on clinical outcomes, and highlights future directions involving artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and data-driven quality improvement. Evidence indicates that structured QA programs reduce imaging errors, decrease repeat examinations, optimize radiation dose, improve diagnostic accuracy, and enhance patient satisfaction while reducing healthcare costs.
