Instructions to Authors

Adolescência e Saúde publishes scholarly work related to adolescent health, including original articles, reviews, updates, case reports, thesis summaries, and brief communications.

Publication Frequency

Quarterly publication schedule.

Language

Manuscripts written in English are accepted.

Maximum Authors

Articles may include up to six authors.

Online Submission

Submissions must be made through the journal website.

Important APC Notice

The journal applies an Article Processing Charge (APC) of USD 700, payable only after formal editorial acceptance confirmation. No payment is required at the time of submission.

1. General Information

The Journal Adolescência e Saúde accepts original articles in the form of review articles, updates, case reports, thesis summaries, and brief communications. Articles are evaluated according to relevance, innovation, clarity of language, depth of research, and contribution to science.

The opinions and concepts presented in manuscripts, as well as the origin and accuracy of citations, are the responsibility of the authors.

2. Mission and Editorial Policy

The mission of Adolescência e Saúde is to promote the circulation and dissemination of knowledge and professional experiences related to adolescent health. The journal aims to strengthen links between professionals who work directly or indirectly with adolescents and to encourage the exchange of experiences, communication, and intersectoral work.

Articles that violate ethical principles established by the Scientific Research Ethics Committee, Resolution 466/12 of the National Health Council, or the rights of children and adolescents under the Statute of Children and Adolescents will not be published.

3. Manuscript Evaluation Process

Manuscripts are evaluated for compliance with the journal instructions, scientific merit, publication potential, and reader interest. After initial editorial review, eligible manuscripts are forwarded to two reviewers with expertise in the relevant field.

  • The review process observes confidentiality and anonymity for authors and reviewers.
  • Manuscripts with significant methodological errors or outside the journal’s editorial policy may be rejected directly by the Editorial Board.
  • Clinical trial manuscripts must include a registration identification number in a registry recognized by WHO and ICMJE.

4. Types of Articles Accepted

Original Articles

Maximum 3,000 words. Maximum 20 references.

Review Articles

Maximum 5,000 words. Maximum 30 references.

Case Reports

Maximum 1,500 words. Maximum 20 references.

Updates

Maximum 2,500 words. Maximum 20 references.

Brief Communications

Maximum 1,500 words. Maximum 10 references. Maximum two figures or tables.

Thesis Summaries

Reproduction of thesis and dissertation summaries and abstracts.

5. General Submission Rules

  • A submission letter signed by all authors is mandatory.
  • The letter must confirm that the article is original, unpublished, and not under consideration by another journal.
  • All authors must confirm participation in the project design, data analysis, and/or final drafting of the article.
  • Authors must disclose all funding sources and potential conflicts of interest.
  • Cases of plagiarism and self-plagiarism will be treated as copyright infringement.

6. Copyright Transfer and Ethics

Upon acceptance, all authors must send a letter authorizing copyright transfer to the journal. The article will only be published after receipt of this letter.

  • Original articles must include Research Ethics Committee approval where applicable.
  • Case reports require Ethics Committee approval and consent when patient identification is possible.
  • Literature reviews do not require Research Ethics Committee approval.

7. Manuscript Preparation

Manuscripts must comply with the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals, published by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.

  • Each major section must begin on a new page.
  • Required sections include title page, abstract and keywords, text, acknowledgements, and references.
  • Tables and figures must be submitted on separate pages and numbered in Arabic numerals.

8. Cover Page Requirements

  • Concise and explanatory article title.
  • Article title in English.
  • Full name of each author, title, and institutional affiliation.
  • Corresponding author details, including full address, telephone, fax if available, and email.
  • Institution where the work was conducted.
  • Conflict of interest statement.
  • Funding source, if applicable.
  • Total number of words, tables, graphs, figures, and references.

9. Abstract, Summary, and Keywords

Abstracts and summaries must not exceed 250 words and should not use abbreviations.

  • Original article: Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.
  • Review article: Objective, Data source, Data synthesis, and Conclusion.
  • Case report: Objective, Case description, and Comments.
  • Authors must provide 3 to 6 descriptors from the Health Sciences Descriptors list prepared by BIREME.

10. Tables, Graphs, and Illustrations

  • Suggested locations for tables, graphs, and illustrations must be indicated in the text.
  • Tables, charts, and figures must be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals.
  • The total number of tables, graphs, and illustrations is limited to five.
  • Tables and graphs should preferably be submitted in Word or Excel format.
  • Other illustrations should be submitted as TIFF or JPG files with 300 DPI resolution.

11. Acknowledgements and References

Acknowledgements should briefly recognize people or institutions that contributed to the study but do not qualify as authors.

References must be numbered and arranged in the order in which they appear in the text. Citations should be identified by superscript numbers. The journal follows the Vancouver reference style recommended by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.

12. Pre-Submission Checklist

Abstract and summary are aligned.
Keywords correspond to approved descriptors.
English title is included.
Submission letter is signed by all authors.
References follow journal standards.
Tables, figures, and captions are complete and cited in the text.
