The present study sets out to examine how human resource management practices operate within public and private sector banks, giving particular attention to two practices, recruitment processes and performance appraisal systems, that carry considerable weight in shaping employees' day-to-day working experience. A structured, systematic research design was adopted to collect primary data from 110 respondents drawn from five public sector banks and four private sector banks located in the Ranchi district of Jharkhand. The resulting sample reflects a fair degree of demographic diversity, spanning a range of ages, genders, educational qualifications, and lengths of professional experience among participants. Taken together, the study's results point to specific areas of HRD practice that call for improvement, and they reinforce the case for further research into human resource practices within the banking industry, particularly with respect to strengthening recruitment strategies and refining performance evaluation mechanisms in ways that ultimately support stronger organisational performance.
