India’s education system has historically emphasized discipline-centric curricula, teacher-centered pedagogy, and high-stakes examinations, often limiting students’ holistic development. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 presents a transformative framework to address these challenges by promoting learner-centric, flexible, and multidisciplinary education. This study examines NEP 2020’s vision for holistic education, focusing on curricular reforms, pedagogical innovations, assessment strategies, and integration of knowledge, skills, and values. Employing a qualitative and conceptual research design, the study analyzes the NEP 2020 document, relevant UGC guidelines, and contemporary scholarly literature using thematic content analysis. The findings highlight a paradigm shift from rote learning and rigid disciplinary structures to experiential, competency-based, and outcome-oriented education. The policy emphasizes flexible curricular pathways, integration of Indian Knowledge Systems, continuous formative assessment, and teacher professional development, aligning India’s higher education system with global best practices. The study contributes to the understanding of holistic education reforms and provides practical and policy recommendations for effective implementation in Indian higher education institutions. Successful adoption of these reforms can enhance critical thinking, creativity, ethical reasoning, and employability, preparing learners for the challenges of the 21st century.
