Abstract

Impact investing has emerged as a transformative force, offering financial returns while pursuing social and environmental impact. In India, the rise of sustainable finance, ESG integration, responsible products and a growing number of individual and institutional investors offers new opportunities for investors seeking both financial and developmental value. This revised study investigates the relationship between impact-oriented investment and investor success in the Indian stock market, with an emphasis on opportunities, challenges, regulatory developments and future prospects. This analysis is based on the original secondary research contained in the paper and the relevant 2026 regulatory and market information. Current developments include SEBI’s ESG framework for mutual-fund schemes, under which ESG strategies may include exclusion, integration, best-in-class and positive screening, impact investing and sustainable objectives, and transition or transition-related investments, with at least 80% of scheme assets aligned with the selected ESG strategy. The study reflects the continuing growth of India’s sustainable-debt market as well as the importance of investor awareness, data quality and standardisation, and transparent disclosure. The paper concludes that incorporating impact considerations alongside disciplined investment analysis can support sustainable development and improve the quality of long-term investment decisions.
