The rapid transition from cash-driven economics to digital financial ecosystems represents a cornerstone of modern financial sector reform. This empirical research investigates the comparative dynamics of digital banking adoption and its consequential impact on financial inclusion across urban and rural demographics in the Pune district of Maharashtra, India. Utilizing a structured, quantitative research design, primary data was gathered from N = 200 respondents selected via stratified random sampling (n1 = 100 urban; n2 = 100 rural).
The measurement model was subjected to psychometric evaluation, yielding a overall Cronbach’s Alpha (\alpha) of 0.887, confirming high internal consistency across all subscales. Four core objectives were evaluated using parametric statistical methods. Independent samples t-tests revealed a statistically significant disparity in digital banking adoption levels between urban and rural cohorts (t(198) = 10.42, p < .001), with urban areas demonstrating substantially higher mean adoption rates. Paired samples t-tests indicated a significant post-adoption increase in financial inclusion metrics across both settings (t(199) = 14.85, p < .001). A Two-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) demonstrated significant main effects for geographic location and income tier on digital usage frequency, alongside a significant interaction effect (F(2, 194) = 4.12, p = .018). Finally, multiple linear regression analysis confirmed that digital banking adoption, ease of access, and financial literacy significantly predict variations in financial inclusion (R2 = .568, F(3, 196) = 85.74, p < .001).
The study highlights persistent structural, educational, and technological divides between urban centers and rural peripheries, offering targeted policy frameworks to bridge the digital financial chasm.
