Abstract

Apana Vayu, one of the five functional forms of Vata Dosha, is primarily responsible for the downward movement and expulsion of waste and reproductive materials. Apana Vayu Vaigunya (functional flaws) represents a clinical state that underlies a wide spectrum of modern disorders, ranging from chronic constipation and irritable bowel syndrome to infertility and urinary incontinence. This article examines the classical diagnostic parameters of Apana Vayu and correlates them with contemporary clinical findings. By integrating Ayurvedic symptomatology with modern physiological markers—such as anorectal manometry and urodynamic studies—this study attempts to establish a comprehensive diagnostic framework for the effective management of pelvic-floor and excretory disorders in contemporary clinical practice.
