Smart Food Systems 4.0 represents the convergence of Industry 4.0 concepts with modern food technology, enabling intelligent, automated, and data-driven approaches to food processing, packaging, and safety management. The rapid advancement of electrical and electronic technologies, combined with communication systems such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), cyber-physical systems, and real-time sensing, is transforming conventional food production into smart and connected ecosystems. These technologies facilitate enhanced process control, energy efficiency, quality assurance, traceability, and food safety compliance across the supply chain. Smart sensors, embedded electronics, automation, and wireless communication networks enable real-time monitoring of critical parameters during processing and preservation, while intelligent packaging systems support freshness detection, contamination alerts, and extended shelf life. Furthermore, digital communication technologies and data analytics improve food safety management by enabling predictive risk assessment, rapid recall systems, and transparent traceability. This review explores the emerging trends, applications, and future prospects of electrical, electronics, and communication technologies within Smart Food Systems 4.0, highlighting their role in improving sustainability, efficiency, and consumer safety. The challenges related to integration, cybersecurity, cost, and skill requirements are also discussed, providing insights into future research directions and industrial adoption.
