Prevenção do HIV entre jovens universitários: A importância da PEP como estratégia de proteção

This study addresses the importance of post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) as an emergency measure for preventing HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) among university-aged young adults. Data collected reveal a significant knowledge gap regarding PEP and access to it within this population—only 20% reported knowing what it is and how to obtain it—despite being the group with the highest incidence of infection. This highlights a disconnect between awareness and behavior in potential risk situations. More than 40 years after the first reported case of HIV, there is still no cure, but there are effective means of prevention and treatment. To promote awareness among university students, an educational seminar led by a specialized healthcare professional will be held at a higher education institution. This initiative aims to disseminate information about the medication, its emergency use, and reduce the stigma associated with HIV, while also identifying factors that contribute to barriers in accessing it.Downloads
