The infl uence of culture on eating behavior of adolescents: an integrative review of the productions in healthcare

Objective: We believe that adolescent eating habits are a matter for attention by all healthcare practitioners assisting them
at primary or terciary facilities. This care must be complete including cultural aspects involving their nutritional conditions.
Data source: This study consists of an integrative review of the literature using a qualitative approach, through searching
the LiLACS and AdoLEC electronic databases in March 2012. data were collected and organized on a data extraction form.
Data synthesis: based on remarks by the authors of the located studies, it is clear that teenage eating habits are strongly
infl uenced today by their surroundings. Conclusion: we thus believe it is of paramount importance to conduct further
studies of adolescents and their culture, as we are cultural beings and our attitudes, decisions and expressions are no more
than elements in a web packed with meanings built up in the course of our lives, shaped by how we live, what we do, with
whom we live − in fact, the universe to which we belong
