Educational group with diabetic adolescents: an experience report

Objective: This paper reports on the academic experience of the fi rst three meetings of an extension project: Educational
Group of Adolescents Living with Diabetes. The purpose of this project is to offer educational activities through the psycho
educational group strategy to diabetic adolescents assisted at the Policlinica Regional dr. Ramos Couto regional polyclinic
in diamantina, Minas gerais State. Case Description: Once identifi ed through the clinic records, the adolescents were
invited to take part in the activities. The fi rst three group meetings were held at the clinic during the second half of
2006, coordinated by a nursing student under teacher supervision. Comments: The importance of these group meetings
soon became apparent, providing information on diabetics and adolescence while fostering exchanges of information and
sharing common experiences in daily life, underscoring the need for the continuation of this project. Furthermore, it offers
students insights into the daily lives of diabetic teenagers, resulting in more effective professional training.
