Abstract

Objective: Understand the infl uence of cultural aspects of adolescents of the Emo group before their sexual-affective
behavior and the prevention of STD/HIV. Methods: A qualitative study was conduct by means of semi-structured interviews
with 15 adolescents who reported themselves as Emos, aged between 13 and 18, in Fortaleza, CE. Results: Participants
refer suffering social discrimination due to intolerance to their style and clothing, considered exotic. Some factors remain
responsible for keeping the vulnerabiliy in adolescence, such as the precocity of sexual experiences, the use of alcoholic
beverages and "dating", however, they expressed their willingness and need to adopt preventive practices. Conclusion: It is
necessary that health professionals and institutions responsible for the care and protection of adolescents perceive the need
to work the issues of sexuality and HIV / AIDS infection in them from the perspective of promoting responsibility for their
own choices refl ecting on their health and well being.
