Abstract

Objective: To develop a critical refl ection with a focus on major ethical issues involving the practice of sexuality in adolescence
and medical care. Data sources: A descriptive, qualitative approach using the method of non-systematic review. The
design of this review was based on research in the database of the Virtual Health Library, using the keywords: "adolescent",
"sexuality" and "bioethics". The criteria used were articles written in Portuguese, published between 2005 and 2012, with
full text available. The results were organized, processed, and analyzed by the Technical Content Analysis Categorical. Data
synthesis: 11 articles were selected according to their affi nity with the purpose of this study, allowing a light refl ection on
bioethics and sexuality in adolescence medical care. From the analysis, three themes were reached: legal and bioethical
principles; practice of adolescent sexuality; and ethics in healthcare of adolescents. Conclusion: The care of adolescents
breaks the limits of medical propaedeutics and reaches the ethical, biological aspects of sexual counseling, involving a holistic
approach of a developing human being where privacy and confi dentiality favor the preventive action to child mistreatment,
sexual abuse, neglect and violence. it is hoped that this study may support more appropriate behavior on the part of health
professionals as well as for decision making for the formulation of public policy to ensure the rights of adolescents.
