Prevalence of drug consumption among adolescents in different school turns

Objective: In this study an attempt was made to measure the frequency of psychoactive substances consumption among
students in Guarulhos city, São Paulo State and to establish a comparative incidence of use between turns frequented by
students in school. Methods: The application of questionnaires, composed of closed questions, was held in 8 educational
units of the municipality of Guarulhos, being 4 in the western region and 4 in the east of the city. Results: The sample was
performed with 1316 students coursing between the 9th grade of elementary school and the 3rd year of high school of
day and night turns. Higher prevalence of alcohol consumption was observed (43%), analgesics (39%), tobacco (37%),
marijuana (28%), alcohol solvents (26%), crack (20%), cocaine (16%) in the night turn. Conclusion: The comparison
between daily and night turns showed higher prevalence of consumption of substances among the students attending
night courses.
