Objective: The objective of this study is to evaluate the quality of life (QoL) among adolescents with Osteogenesis
Imperfecta enrolled in the bisphosphonate (pamidronateand alendronate) treatment program run by the Instituto Fernandes
Figueira/Fiocruz. Methods: This descriptive exploratory study deployed a quantitative approach, using the World Health
Organization Quality of Life Assessment Instrument (WHOQOL-100) and a socio-demographic questionnaire. Results:
Among these 37 adolescents, 56.8% were female, 62.2% were 15 years old or more, 51.4% had Type I OI and 59.4%
were on out-patient treatment taking alendronate. The socio-demographic characteristics revealed an association between
adolescent education and OI type, as well as between maternal education and treatment regimens. The religiosity /
spirituality / personal beliefs and social relationships items posted the highest scores (77.6 and 73.7 respectively) with the
environment scoring lowest (64.9). Conclusion: The results indicate that adolescents with OI are satisfi ed with their QoL in
general (69.3), mainly among those with type I (77.8) and under outpatient treatment (73.4)
