Educational approach on dengue to adolescents from a federal public school

Objective: To identify the level of information on dengue fever among adolescents at a Federal Government School in Recife,
Northern Brazil, in order to provide preventive guidance and heighten awareness in the Student-Family-School triad. Methods:
This is a descriptive/exploratory study using a quantitative approach. The location established for this study was the on-campus
primary / secondary school (CAp) at the Pernambuco Federal University (UFPE). The data analysis was based on the use of
auxiliary software: EPI-INFO Version 3.5.3. Results: Prior knowledge of dengue fever was noted among adolescents, acquired
mainly from publicity. However, this publicity does not allow exchanges of information and clearing up doubts, which may be
achieved through educational lectures aimed at the target public. Conclusion: Furthermore, educational actions must cross
the theory barrier through agreements with schools, daycare centers, family health clinics, universities, and other institutions.
