Perfi l lipídico e índice de massa corporal de escolares de um colégio estadual da região centro-ocidental do Paraná
Lipid profi le and body mass índex of students from a state school in the central-occident region of Paraná
Keywords:
Dyslipidemias, student health services, obesityAbstract
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the lipid profi le and association with body mass index (BMI) in a state
college of central-occidental region of Paraná. Methods: To this end, serum values of total cholesterol, high density
lipoprotein and triglycerides were determined. For the evaluation of the lipid profi le criteria proposed by the III Brazilian
Guidelines on Dyslipidemias were adopted. The body mass index (BMI) was calculated with measurements of weight
and height. Results: By analysis of lipid profi le, a prevalence of 43.89% of dyslipidemia in students was found. Signifi cant
differences were observed in average between genders when evaluated total cholesterol (p=0.008), high-density lipoprotein
(p=0.003) and triglycerides (p=0.01). The female group showed 52% of mild hypercholesterolemia and 24% of severe
hypertriglyceridemia. When evaluated the association between body mass index and the variables: total cholesterol, low
density lipoprotein, high density lipoprotein and triglycerides, there was no statistically signifi cant difference. Conclusion: Overweight is a categorical factor shown in other studies to increased levels of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein
and triglycerides and decreased high-density lipoprotein. Measures such as nutritional education and practice of physical
activities, should be adopted in schools, in order to prevent obesity and diseases associated with it, such as dyslipidemias.
