Evaluation of the knowledge of adults and teens about Sexually Transmitted Diseases - STDs

Objective: To evaluate the knowledge of adults and adolescentes about sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and the
consistent use of condoms. Methods: A descriptive study with a quantitative approach, was developed in a public school
of a municipality in Southern Minas Gerais with the approval of the Research Ethics UNIFENAS Committee under number
221/2010. A questionnaire was used to check the sexual behavior of 345 youngsters and adults aged from 14 to 86 years
in 2010 and 2011. Results: 60.17% of men and 37.49% of women informed having initiated sexual activity before age 15.
Concerning condom use, 37.31% of men and 35.97% of women use it in all sexual relations. Regarding symptoms, 41.66%
of men and 47.36% of women presented secretions as the most frequent. Conclusion: The study shows that the population
studied begins early sexual life and orientation to the youth about their sexuality, should be inserted openly in their reality.
