Violence against adolescent women - a review of Brazilian epidemiologic studies published between 2006 and 2011

Adolescent women live in contexts of greater vulnerability to violence than older women due to the immaturity
biopsychosocial. This study investigated the extent and the characteristics of violence involving female adolescents /
juvenile in Brazil. We conducted a search of articles of epidemiological studies published in journals indexed in Scielo
between 2006-2011. A total of 30 articles and a synthesis of the annotated results are presented. The results revealed
that there the prevalence of violence against woman is high and shows its association with young age. There is a lack of
information specifi cally about violence in this age group, because the studies conducted so far refer either to adult women
(including adolescents) or to surveys of children and adolescents.
