Abstract

Objective: Investigate sexual behavior among adolescents and young people aged 15 to 24 years. Methods: This is a
descriptive, epidemiological and transversal study, involving 210 students from the State Public Education Schools of the
Western Region of Goiânia, using an anonymous and self-administered questionnaire. This research was approved by the
Research Ethics Committee of the Hospital of the Federal University of Goiás. A descriptive analysis was performed by means
of frequency distribution. Results: As for sexual initiation, 49% of those involved reported being sexually active; 50% of
the students informed having had their fi rst intercourse when aged between 10 and 14 years. Although 95% were familiar
with the protection given by the use of condom, 68% reported its inconsistent use and only 32% declared always using it. Conclusion: In what refers to sexual behavior, it was evident that among students of both sexes there were behaviors of risk
for HIV / AIDS, such as high prevalence of early sexual initiation, multiple partners throughout life, practice of oral and anal
sex, use of alcohol before sexual relations and non use of condoms.
