The adolescent and his family

Abstract

Objective: The present study has the main objective to consider aspects of contemporary family, indicating changes in
family formations and the impact of the parent-adolescent relationships. Data Source: This work is based upon our clinical
experience with adolescents and their families in the “Centro de Referência Adolescente Cidadão Esperança” (Adolescent
Citizen Hope Reference Center), of the Hebiatria Institute of the “Faculdade de Medicina do ABC”(ABC Medicine School).
Data synthesis: This experience highlighted the importance of including the family in the therapeutic process of
adolescents in order to make parents co-responsible for the complaints presented and remove the adolescent from the role
of representative of all family problems. Conclusion: During this study we became aware of the importance of involving
the family and several branches of science in the treatment of adolescents in order to obtain the desired therapeutic results.
