Abstract

Objective: to describe the causes of school violence as apprehended by students from a rural school community in
the interior of Bahia. Methods: qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study involving 53 students from a rural school
community in the interior of Bahia. Data were collected using the drawing-story with theme and semi-structured interviews. Data were treated by analysis of story drawings and thematic contents. The study followed the recommendations of
Resolution 466/2012 of the National Health Council. Results: For the participants of the study, school violence is due to
three aspects: family breakdown and failure in family-school partnership; use of illicit drugs; and lack of information to the
students on the subject. Considerations: the construction of intersectorial actions and the strengthening of educational
institutions of the person itself, family and school, as well as their integration, can be a way to build strategies to prevent
and fi ght violence
