Adolescence and HIV/AIDS: A bibliometric analysis of Brazilian scientifi c production during 1980-2013
Keywords:
Adolescent, HIV, acquired immunodefi ciency syndrome, HIV soropositivity.Abstract
Objective: To conduct a bibliometric analysis of Brazilian scientifi c output on adolescence and HIV / AIDS infections.
Methods: Scientifi c papers found on SciELO, Pepsic and LILACS databases by searching through the following descriptors:
"Adolescence and HIV", "Adolescence and AIDS" and "Adolescence and being HIV-Positive", within the 1980 – 2013
timeframe. Among the 168 records found, 38 were rated as eligible for analysis. Results: An signifi cant increase was
noted in the number of papers published during this period. The journals with the most papers were: Jornal Brasileiro de
Doenças Sexualmente Transmissíveis, Cadernos de Saúde Pública and Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem. Government
run universities predominated as the home institutions of the fi rst author, with scientifi c output clustered in South and Southeast Brazil, particularly in the nursing fi eld with a qualitative approach. Most of these studies were conducted with
non-infected adolescents, addressing topics such as HIV prevention and knowledge of contraceptive methods. Conclusion:
New studies are required, focused on the experiences of adolescents living with HIV, including prejudice and compliance
with antiretroviral treatment, in addition to meditative surveys.
