Morrer juntas? Pacto de suicídio na adolescência - Relato de caso
Die together? Suicide pact in adolescence - Case report
Keywords:
Suicide, adolescent, death, attempted.Abstract
Objective: To report on a teen suicide pact between two teenage girls and its integration with the literature. Case
Description: Two friends (13 and 14 years old) were referred to the Urgent Care Unit (UCU), Child and Adolescent
Psychiatry Department, Oporto, Portugal, after attempting double suicide through deliberately ingesting several drugs at
the home of one of them. Comments: Suicide pacts in early adolescence seem to be very different from those involving
adults: less well prepared, they are consequently less lethal, usually agreed between same-gender friends with similar life
stories. In this case study, there was no evidence of family disruptions or maternal deprivation in childhood, as suggested
earlier. Future investigations are needed to confi rm the characteristics of teen suicide pacts, defi ning risk factors and seeking
more effective prevention.
