Objective: To check associations between perceived quality of life and social, demographic and clinical characteristics
among adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Methods: With a descriptive, quantitative design, this cross-sectional
study was conducted with 22 patients between 10 and 19 years old, subject to endocrine monitoring. Data were collected
through a questionnaire exploring social, demographic and clinical aspects, as well as the Diabetic Youngsters Quality of Life
assessment tool, which is divided into three inter-correlated domains: Satisfaction, Impact and Concern. In order to pursue
the objectives, descriptive data analysis was used, together with the Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney statistical tests.
Results: The overall quality of life scores (104.68) and their domains - Satisfaction (35.05), Impact (47.18) and Concerns (22.45) were low. Statistical signifi cance was found for the following aspects: time since diagnosis and overall quality of life
(p = 0.018) and concern (p = 0.001); insulin use >3 times a day and satisfaction (p = 0.033); hyperglycemia and concerns (p
= 0.031); hyperglycemia crises >6 times a month and satisfaction (p = 0.044), with 54.5% of these youngsters perceiving
their health as good. Conclusion: In general, these adolescents enjoy a good quality of life. Although coping with a chronic
condition like diabetes mellitus type 1, they view themselves as healthy people
