Violência contra adolescentes com defi ciência: uma revisão integrativa da literatura
Violence against teens with disabilities: an integrative literature review
Keywords:
Violence, disabled persons, adolescent.Abstract
Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate links between violence and adolescents with disabilities. Data
sources: An integrative literature review was conducted in August 2014 by searching the Latin American and Caribbean
Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS); Public / Publish Medline (PubMed); and Scientifi c Electronic Library Online
(SciELO) databases through the following descriptors: violence, disabled persons, adolescent. Answers were sought to
the following guideline question: Are teenagers with disabilities more vulnerable to violations of their rights, including
violence? The inclusion criteria steering the sample selection were: scientifi c papers addressing violence against adolescents with disabilities, available in full electronically, written in English, Portuguese or Spanish, and published between 2007
and 2013. The exclusion criteria were: surveys with no abstracts; papers not aligned with the study guideline question.
Data synthesis: 199 papers were found, of which only nine met the inclusion criteria. The papers showed a signifi cant
association between violence and adolescents with disabilities. Conclusion: It must be borne in mind that adolescence
already constitutes an element leaving youngsters vulnerable to violence and disabilities exacerbate this situation even
more, indicating that further research is required in this fi eld to provide input for public policies and buttress government
(and other) institutions dealing with this segment of the population.
