Objective: To report a case of adolescent patient with amelogenesis imperfecta, addressing the importance of early diagnosis
and treatment while underscoring the importance of understanding and cooperation between parents and patient during
treatment. Case description: A 12-year-old mixed-race hyperactive patient and his family came to the Adolescent Oral Health Clinic, Rio de Janeiro State University, seeking dental care. The mother complained about the appearance of her son’s
teeth, claiming that they had yellowed and changed in size. The main complaint was tooth sensitivity, especially to cold
food and beverages. After clinical and radiographic examinations, the patient was given instructions on oral hygiene and
sensitivity treatment. Comments: The problem must be diagnosed as early as possible, allowing evidence-based treatment
decisions. Parental understanding and cooperation in the treatment of amelogenesis imperfecta is particularly important, as
it is clear that the child is also affected psychologically. Treatment must focus on restoring a good appearance and functional
capacity, particularly chewing and speech
