Keywords:
Students, nutritional status, adolescent nutritionAbstract
Objective: Identify the nutritional pattern, food consumption and scholar achievement by students of a state school at Flores
da Cunha/RS. Methods: Descriptive transversal study applied to 100 students between 14 and 17 years old. Were evaluated
clinical and anthropometric variables, food consumption frequency and scholar performance. Corporal mass index was used
to classify the nutritional pattern, and the abdominal circumference was used to classify the risk to cardiovascular diseases
using the ration between the abdominal circumference and height. The food quality was investigated using an eating
frequency questionnaire, and the scholar performance by the school records. The data was analyzed using descriptive and
analytical statistics at SPSS® software admitting a signifi cance level of 5%. Results: Most of teenagers were females, were attending the fi rst year of high school, were not working by the time the data was collected and had an approval index
of 96% during the last three years. Concerning the nutritional pattern, 75% were eutrophics. 82% of the teenagers could
be considered free of cardiovascular diseases. Was verifi ed a relevant difference (p <0,05) regarding the consumption of
industrialized products, where girls showed higher consumption than boys. No relevant differences were verifi ed between
the anthropometric variables and the prevalence of school failure. Conclusion: The students have eutrophic nutritional
patterns with no risk of cardiovascular diseases, there is a prevalence of industrialized products consumption by girls and
the school failure was not associated to overweight or obesity.
