Abstract

Contraception in adolescence is a relevant subject to the clinical practice of any physician, especially gynecologist and pediatrician. In this important period of women’s life, specific corporal transformations happen; each time more precocious, not ever followed by psychological and social progress. Perhaps it explains the high taxes of pregnancy among adolescents in Brazil. Physicians shall guide these young women about the choice of contraceptive methods; informing about all available methods, benefits and unwished effects of each one, stimulating the adhesion to chosen option. Independently of familiar planning, always preventing sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) through masculine or feminine condoms.
