Objective: High blood pressure is a disease affecting millions of people all over the world. Although found mainly
among adults, it has recently been appearing in children and adolescents as well. Adolescence is a phase whose typical
characteristics include: establishing an individual lifestyle, structuring nutritional status, mood swings and the search for
identity. These characteristics may step up exposure to a variety of high-risk situations and factors. This is a time of multiple
changes with sweeping physical, biological, mental, social and psychic transformations. This paper explores the main
risks or conditions that might lead to high blood pressure in adolescence. Data source and data synthesis: This study
presents a bibliographic survey describing the contributions that may be made by nurses based on primary prevention
actions, as a way of intervening in high blood pressure during this phase. Conclusion: Despite progress in control, diagnosis
and treatment, primary prevention is still a matter of much discussion among healthcare practitioners, as this requires
intervention before the problem appears.
