Sexual Transmitted Diseases in female adolescents from poor communities of the city of Rio de Janeiro: incidence and differences between race/color in the vulnerability to STD/Aids

Objective: In view of poverty and feminization of Aids during adolescence, the study was carried out with the purpose
of evaluating life conditions, health and sexuality of female adolescents and verifying their vulnerabilities to HIV/Aids.
Methods: It is a cross-sectional study carried out by means of interviews and laboratory tests for diagnosis of STD of 816
female adolescents from 10 different slums. Information regarding personal, familiar and personal data has been requested
to such adolescents. In addition, the research comprised a detailed investigation regarding sexuality, as well as frequency
analyses, variables associations and signifi cance testes with p<0,05. Results: 52,8% of the interviewed were between 15
and 19 years old, 74.0% were black, 93.5% single. 28.6% were more than 2 years late in the school and 35,9% of them had been victims of any type of violence. The weekly use of alcohol drinks has been related by 18.6% and 39.0% alleged
the consummation of sexual relationships, from which 53,2% initiated before completing 15 years old. It has been found
a statistical signifi cant difference in the associations between race/color and the variables sexual activity and STD historic.
Conclusion: Poverty, low level education, use of alcohol drinks, violence and precocious sexual initiation are conditions
that increase the vulnerability of female adolescents to STD/Aids. This study suggests policies that offer more gynecologic
services to this public, including actions which may contribute for the reduction of the social, gender and race inequality.
