Background: Effective parenting practices are crucial in children's health promotion and prevention of common childhood diseases. Good parenting practices, such as nutrition, hygiene and health care, help prevent infections and ensure good health.
Objective: To understand the role of parenting in the prevention of childhood illnesses in children between the ages of 2 and 12 years.
Methodology: A descriptive analytical study was carried out among 300 parent-child dyads. Parental practices including hygiene, nutrition, vaccination and health service-seeking patterns were measured using structured questionnaires. Data were analysed using SPSS through correlation and regression analyses.
Findings: The study found 52% of parents provided high preventive care. These children had fewer illnesses (15%) than those with low parental involvement (42%). Good hygiene lowered infection rates by 38% and timely vaccination improved health (p < 0.01).
Conclusion: Effective parenting practices play an important role in preventing childhood diseases. Education on positive parenting practices can improve child health and prevent illness.
