Abstract

Background: The crucial factor affecting the health and developmental outcomes of children is parental involvement. High participation of the parents in care, education and emotional support plays a major role in physical development, cognitive, and psychological health. Parental inactivity has been linked with the poor health status of children, maturity, and developmental problems.

Objective: To determine the importance of parental involvement in enhancing positive physical health and development outcomes in children aged 0-12 years.

Methodology: The study was a descriptive analytical study involving use of structured questionnaires and interviews on 280 parents. Correlation and regression were used to collect and analyze data about parental involvement, child health indicators and outcomes of development.

Findings: Results of the research revealed that high rates of involvement were exhibited by 74 percent of parents. Children who had highly involved parents had better physical health outcomes with normal growth in 81% and a decrease in the frequency of illness by 28%. Also, positive parental involvement was strongly related to cognitive development and emotional stability( p < 0.01).

Conclusion: The role of parental involvement in promoting child health and development is a crucial one. Parental involvement as a result of education and support can enhance the overall well-being of the children in a great manner.
