Abstract

Background: Anxiety, depression and behavioral disorders are widespread mental health issues in children that have impacted their general development and success in later life. Poverty and other environmental factors as well as exposure to experiences in the early years of life are important determinants of mental health. Objective: The paper will explore the issues of pediatric mental health and assess how early intervention strategies may enhance psychological and developmental conditions. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out on children aged 617 years with the help of standardized tools of assessing mental health and standardized questionnaires. There was collection of data on early intervention strategies such as counseling, parental support and school-based strategies. Associations were determined using statistical analysis involving correlation and regression. Findings: The study showed that about 32 percent of the children had moderate to severe mental health issues. Strategies of early intervention especially arranged counseling and involvement of parents revealed a high correlation with the positive results ( p = 0.01). The level of anxiety and behavioral symptoms in children who were exposed to early interventions decreased by 25 percent over children who were not exposed. Conclusion: Early intervention is significant in enhancing psychiatric health of children. Family-school-based strategies supported by healthcare means should be integrated to ensure the promotion of long-term psychological well-being.
