Abstract

Adolescent emotional resilience is an important but under-researched aspect of paediatric care, especially in low resource environments, where mental health services are under-resourced and not proactive. A dramatic change in the cultural landscape of digitalization has created new opportunities to incorporate structured EH programs into integrated health care systems for children, but there is limited systematic evidence of the benefits of integrated EH approaches. This study aims to examine the effects of technology-enabled preventive education with school-based and clinic-based integrated pediatric healthcare services on adolescent emotional resilience. A cross sectional quantitative study was carried out with 200 adolescents aged 13-18 years using validated instruments Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, Digital Health Literacy Instrument and Kessler Psychological Distress Scale. Adolescents in high-integration settings had a mean Emotional Resilience Index of 74.3, compared to 52.4 for adolescents in low-integration settings, and there was a 42% reduction of anxiety indicators among high and medium preventive education exposure groups. Technological preventive education has a great positive impact on the emotional resilience of adolescents when integrated into healthcare services and should be adopted on a system-wide level.
