Abstract

Background: Gastrointestinal disorders of childhood, including atypical bowel disease, irritable intestinal syndrome, functional digestive problems, and contagious enteropathies, are a major global health problem. Increasing evidence indicates a dysbiosis of the gut microbiome is critically involved in disease pathogenesis, immunity, intestinal inflammation and impaired nutrient digestion. Therapeutic interventions based on microbiomes are emerging as promising strategies to restore gut microbial balance and improve pediatric gastrointestinal health. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of microbiome-based therapeutic approaches and propose new therapeutic strategies in the management of childhood gastrointestinal disorders. Methodology: A holistic microbiome-based therapeutic strategy was formulated, encompassing metagenomic assessment, probiotic supplementation, bacterial prebiotic supplementation, dietary intervention, and personalized microbial profiling. Clinical outcomes were evaluated using severity grading scores, microbe diversity indices, infectious biomarkers, and treatment responses in pediatric patients during the 16-week intervention. Results: The suggested intervention strategy led to significant clinical improvements. Symptom severity levels decreased by 41.8% and diversity of gut microbes increased 36.5%. The inflammatory biomarkers decreased by 33.2% and the total response to the therapy was 89.4%. The personalised microbiome-guided therapies were 27.6% more effective than conventional treatment methods, indicating increased therapeutic precision and better patient outcomes. Conclusion: Microbiome-based treatment strategies offer an efficient and tailored strategy to managing gastrointestinal disorders in children. The combination of microbial profiling, individualized probiotics, and dietary modulation helps to restore gut health, to reduce inflammation, and to improve clinical outcomes, and paves the way for advancement of precision medicine approaches in pediatric gastroenterology.
