Abstract

Background: Nutrition programs for children play a crucial role in promoting proper growth, cognitive development and overall well-being. Malnutrition, micronutrient deficiencies and poor dietary intake are still major public health challenges, in particular in developing regions. Successful nutrition interventions can enhance physical growth, academic achievement, immune function and longer-term health outcomes. Objective: The purpose of this study is to assess the effects of child nutrition programs on cognitive and developmental outcomes for school-age children by implementing comprehensive nutrition interventions. Methods: We developed a nutrition assessment framework that included school feeding, standard micronutrient supplementation, dietary variety programs, and development monitoring for 12 months in 500 children aged 5-12 years. The effectiveness of the program was assessed in terms of scores of the cognitive proficiency, body mass index (BMI), height-for-age, attendance and nutritional status evaluations. Findings: The results showed substantial progress in both physical and cognitive growth. Cognitive test results increased by 28.4 percent, school attendance by 18.9 percent and nutritional health indicators by 32.7 percent. BMI increased by 14.6% and height-for-age growth outcomes improved by 12.8%. The overall programme effectiveness was 91.5%, which implies considerable benefits from extensive nutrition interventions. Conclusion: The child nutrition programs have significant effect on improved cognitive performance, physical growth and educational outcomes. Overall, a well-balanced diet, micronutrient supplementation, and regular monitoring of children's growth, are effective measures to improve child development and to promote their health and academic performance in the long term.
