Abstract

Low levels of health awareness, cultural stigma, misinformation and lack of access to preventive pediatric health services are emerging challenges for adolescent reproductive wellness. All of these factors play a role in unhealthy behaviors, postponement of health care use, and reproductive health risks for adolescents. This study suggests an educational awareness framework for healthcare with an educational approach that combines the delivery of healthcare services more effectively with the school- and community-based health promotion efforts to enhance reproductive wellness and preventive care behaviors. A cross sectional quantitative study was conducted on 200 adolescents (aged 13 to 19 years) to evaluate their awareness, seeking care and preventive health practices. Findings showed that structured awareness creation sessions increased the reproductive health knowledge by 38%, uptake of preventive healthcare by 34% and good behavioral practices by 29%. Conclusions: Partnerships between health care providers, educators, and families can have a substantial impact on improving adolescent reproductive health and maintaining long-term, effective prevention of pediatric health issues.
