Emerging Digital Health Interventions For Improving Pediatric Chronic Disease Management Outcomes

Abstract

Background: Long-term management and monitoring are essential for chronic diseases in children including asthma, diabetes, obesity and epilepsy. The rise of digital health solutions, including mobile health applications, telemedicine platforms, wearable devices, and remote monitoring systems, has revolutionized healthcare delivery and patient engagement.  Objective: This study aims to assess the effectiveness of emerging digital health interventions in improving clinical, behavioral, and quality-of-life outcomes in children and adolescents with chronic diseases.  Methodology: A narrative review of recent peer-reviewed studies (2020-2025) was performed. We searched major electronic databases for literature on digital technologies used in management of pediatric chronic disease and reported outcomes.  Findings: The review demonstrated that digital health interventions had a significant effect on treatment adherence, self-management behaviors, symptom monitoring and communication between patients, caregivers and healthcare providers. Reported outcomes included 20–35% improvement in medication adherence, 15–30% reduction in hospital visits and increased patient satisfaction. Telehealth and mobile applications were the most contributing factors to disease surveillance and immediate clinical intervention. Conclusion: Novel digital health interventions hold promise for improving outcomes in the management of pediatric chronic disease. Their integration into standard healthcare practices can improve patient involvement, clinical results, and foster a sustainable, patient-focused approach to care provision.
